He didn't have to hogtied anymore and whats more was that he finally house broken.

Still, Sénon wasn't dense enough to think he could trust the little monster to run around unattended, and more literally, unchained. "Easy. Easy, Terawr." The babe responded better with commands akin to a pet's than to a child's.

Sénon holding his chain taut, waiting for his companion to dismount and giving the bratty biter no room to roam.

As always the view in Sootopolis was enchanting and a sunrise was the 2nd most glorious of the day from inside the fallen meteor. "Seems overly generous for the League to assign us to pokémon training with pay." Even if it was specifically Dragon training, the paycheck was odd and unquestioned extra.

in comparison to sénon's tyrunt, cait's applin was naught more than a morsel. the little thing fit in the palm of her hand, tiny and lacking in presence. but despite her small size, the pokemon didn't appear perturbed by their immediate surroundings; nor the size disparity.

"you stay in there, baby girl. safe and sound."

the pokemon was presently tucked away within cait's purse, made to share the space with a pouch of make up and a cellphone. those bulbous eyes remained trained upon tyrunt, the pokemon's curiosity apparent. she pipped up a little, only to be hushed and offered a gentle pat.

"it is," she replied, a hint of a smirk on her lips as she eyed her beau.

she'd reach for her belt, plucking up one of the six pokeballs secured there. a graveler emerged with a low rumble, the pokemon having been carefully selected to test the tyrunt's mettle in battle. his multiple arms flexed, the reasonably-sized beast shifting his attention toward cait.

"impress me, graveler."

the pokemon released a noise of affirmation, with applin shifting excitedly within the purse.

He was convinced one day the Tyrunt would blossom into a formidable beast whose cerebral cortex (if dinosaurs had such a thing) allowed for more processes than "Attack", "Heel", "Sleep" and "Eat". It was in Terawr's favor that today's exercises only called for the two most former of the four.

Cait set out a Graveler, a Kantonian species Sénon had never been very impressed with, unlike its pre and post evolution counterparts. "You sure about this matchup?" The Tyrunt didn't know any water-type moves but he didn't anticipate the match-up being much of the challenge to the hatchling. Still, Cait had likely participated in just as many battles in her tenure as Gym Leader as he he had as a wandering trainer.

"Emmmm. Okay." Pressing a release the freed fossil snapped his jaw darting after the spunky rock ball. "Use STOMPING TANTRUM!" Catching the applin peaking out at him from her purse he wondered why it wasn't partaking in the battle itself.

"he'll be fine," she assured, settling her gaze toward her graveler.

cait was well-equipped to handle loss if it came about. when she was a gym leader, she had been made to surrender her badge multiple times over. but the bitterness of defeat had lost it's edge after the tenth or twentieth failure. she simply learned from her own shortcomings; forced to acknowledge that the consequence of her upbringing had resulted in her being naught more than a novice.

'the first gym. the easiest gym,' she thought.

she had only started acquiring experience when she had enlisted, the former gym lead now considered 'moderate' in quality when compared to her peers of similar age and standing.

"defense curl."

the command was quickly administered and promptly obeyed, her pokemon briefly taking on a curious sheen before it dissipated. the attack fell upon him shortly after, graveler adopting a defensive stance as stomping tantrum resulted in a thorough beating.

"app?"

applin chirped once more, continuing to shift impatiently within the confines of her purse.

"i'm thinking of training graveler up. i'm interested in having him evolve into a golem."

He crossed his arms standing next to his lover as they coached their pair from the side of the battle square. Little by little, day by day, he was feeling like his old self again.

They were only one round in, and it felt good to talk 'battle' with her. He almost regretted not taking her up on her offer to a pokémon battle their second date.

Though it wasn't lost on him that this was just a friendly bit of training; a scrimmage. Not an actual battle.

"Oh he'll survive; that's a rock-type's strength. But..." The focus on Terawr as his feet created earthen pulses to attack the Graveler at the ground with a ground-typed attacks brought a smirk to the redheads face. "-it takes a dragon to break a dragon." Peripherally, he looked to her Applin.

STOMPING TANTRUM was Super Effective!

A special case in training and development Terawr was the first pokémon Sénon had trained with a moveset specific to exploit the weaknesses of any attacking pokémon a Tyrunt would be weak to.

In graveler's case; Ground attacks and Ice to back it up. "A Golem huh? Let's make this quick match a good challenge for him then." He projected his voice over to the dino-pup "ICE FANG!"

Defense was all good and rock and ground types were good at it but defense alone would literally never win a pokémon battle. As a Gym Leader Cait knew this so he waited, for her counter attack.

"'a dragon to break a dragon,'" she parroted, good-naturedly.

she appears amused by his statement - though it was a perfectly valid one. but despite their dwindling odds, cait held faith that graveler wouldn't crumple so easily. she snapped her fingers once - twice - the noise reaching the rock-type. presently the icy fangs were scraping at the rocky flesh of his arm, frigid tendrils threatening to spread and lock him into place.

"grav-el," he rumbled, a malicious gleam entering his gaze.

the pokemon's focus sharpened, the creature seeking to take advantage of his close proximity to the oversized babe. with a startling amount of brutality, he'd shovel dry earth into his great paws - the material growing crumbly and dry beneath is touch. without a moment's hesitation, the paw full would seek to cram the irritating material into the fossil pokemon's eyes.

[ graveler used sand attack ! ]

and while it was a relatively minor counter damage-wise, it could prove an effective one.

ICE FANG was Super Effective!

The best defense was a relentless offense most fire specialists leaned on a strategy with heavy attacks and little else. Sénon couldn't say he was too different than those guys; if it wasn't broke, don't fix it.

He never put much stock into the LEERS, GROWLS, or SHARPENS of battle but not all supplemental moves were a waste of time. He now had two charmander, one charmeleon and a charizard and each of them could make a proper SMOKESCREEN.

The sight of his vicious little monster being blinded poked him right on the funny bone. Being her only means to turn the battle around he shouldn't have been surprised she went there but he was both surprised and amused. His crossed armed composure burst into slack-armed laughter. It was a good move and Terawr could learn from the adversity.

SAND ATTACK was Super Effective!

He had to shake his laughter long enough to use his serious voice for instruction to the Tyrunt. "Don't let up, ICE FANG!" With no supplemental moves of his own the only strategy left was to double down on attack.

the brief skirmish was nearing its conclusion, with cait realizing that her graveler was approaching his personal limit. she was entirely at fault for his inadequacies, the creature made to idle away as a kept and thoroughly-tamed creature.

'i'll work on it.'

yet another personal project to look into - he'd be one of the handful pokemon she'd personally focus on.

"g - "

the innate ability of sturdy was all that was keeping the rock-type upright, the strained grin he bore betraying his pain. suddenly he began to glow, instinct urging him to trigger a self-destruct. but his mistress's voice caused him to halt, the pokemon using the remainder of his energy to wrest his arm out of the tyrunt's hold.

"looks like it's a loss for us," she announced, appearing unsurprised by the outcome.

her rock-type trembled from an unseen cold, the ice fang's power having brushed against his very core. it was a miracle he hadn't been utterly frozen, but luck had been on his side.

"wasn't that exciting, applin?"

she'd lift the pokemon out of her purse, the little creature blinking and then hopping happily up and down within her grasp.

Terawr finally being trusted to battle understood victory and once he tasted it, he stormed about the battle square to roar to the world that he was the victor, that he was mighty. The Royal Heir Pokémon displaying his dominion.

Sénon usually one to curb such arrogant displays unless they were hard won and struggled for he decided to let the dino have its moment; for the betterment of the Tyrunt's development.

He'd won. There was no sense of relief nor arrogance. It was a fun bout and with Cait as his opponent none of it felt dire, like something he had to win. It felt like they were using each other to compare notes, and to grow. "You surprised me." Cait didn't have his extended battle experience as a street trainer but her condensed tenure as Gym Leader gave her an equivalent experience to pull from.

They could learn from one another and keep each other's skills sharp. "If you'd lead with an attack or separately, if Terawr couldn't capitalize on Graveler's type weaknesses, you could have easily flipped that battle onto its head."

When he was done gloating Terawr returned to his father's side smiling at the Graveler like they hadn't just battled. So young and learning so much, his mind had enough room to remember his victory but not enough to remember his opponent.

"You got moves, Ms. Alfric" That was what her peers called her right; Ms. Alfric?

she rested her hand upon her graveler's forehead, an energy comparable to a soothing balm washing over him in a slow but potent wave. his pains were eased, the iciness which formerly plagued him gradually ebbing away into nothingness.

"we'll do better next time around."

the words were directed at both sénon and the rock-type. cait hadn't been impressed, but she saw a vague glimmer or something. with a fair amount of personal training, a thorough reworking of their move set and a much-needed evolution; they'd make for a decent teammate.

"i'm just cait nowadays," she corrected, the look she wore one of vague contemplation. "maybe when i'm in my thirties i won't mind as much?"

she'd bend to check tyrunt's eyes, making sure they weren't too irritated as she crooned at the fossil pokemon. her applin hopped around their feet while she conducted her examination, imagining themselves to be far larger than they presently were.
